Music Department Parent Information

Dear KMS Advanced Strings Parents,

Welcome to the start of the new school year. Even though we are all adapting to quickly changing instructions and situations, it has been wonderful to see your students last week in our virtual classrooms.

We usually would hold open house meetings for our parents at this time of the month, but the situation means we will have to reach out and communicate with you online.

Music Department Handbook
Your children should have already been introduced to the basic information and guidelines that will govern their experience in the KMS Music Department. Please review the document when you can, and note the additional information for the safety and health guidelines for returning to face-to-face classroom instruction this year.

Instrument Use and Assignments
Students who need to borrow a KMS-owned instrument should have already picked one up from school. Any students who still need an instrument should make arrangements with their teacher as soon as possible.

Books and Supplies
The cleaning and playing supplies for all instruments should be mostly the same as last year in Beginning or Advanced Strings.  All AS students will need to purchase String Explorer, Book 2 (red cover) for their instrument. They can be purchased at https://www.musiccenterofhawaii.net/ or https://easymusiccenter.com/

Music Department Fees and Fundraising
All Music Department students are required to pay a fee to support the co-curricular activities and materials required for music classes. We also ask for a small donation if you are going to borrow a KMS instrument. Please find attached the form for Concert Band students and watch the following video for a more in-depth explanation of the fees. Forms are due to the KMS front office by August 31st.

If you would like to make a donation to support the Music Department, we are participating in the Foodland Give Aloha program during the month of September. Ask your Foodland or Sack ‘n Save cashier to assist you in submitting a partially matched donation.

If you have received this email by mistake, would like to be removed from the contact list, or have another email you would prefer to use, please let me know.
