Winter Concert #1 is tonight!

Just a friendly reminder that tonight is Winter Concert #1 (Kaimuki High School Auditorium at 6:00PM) and will feature the following:

Chorus (6:00pm)
Featuring White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes as covered by the Pentatonix; Humble and Kind, made popular by Tim McGraw; and Believer by Imagine Dragons. More traditional fare include My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music and the French-Canadian folk song J’entends Le Moulin.

Beginning Ukulele (6:40pm)
Featuring Ka’au Crater Boys’ Tropical Hawaiian Day, One Day by Matisyahu, and music from Kolohe Kai. Also including more traditional fare like Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and Mele Kalikimaka.

Intermediate Ukulele (7:20pm)
Featuring classic rock like The Cascades’ Rhythm of the Rain and more modern pop like Mraz’s I’m Yours. Also, Hawaiian tunes old and new like Na Makani Eha and Honey Baby. Finally, IU closes with Maui, Hawaiian Supa Man and a medley of Christmas songs.

Beginning Strings (8:05pm)
Featuring a mix of classical, pop, and Christmas favorites. Beginning Strings will perform Emile Waldteufel’s Skater’s Waltz and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. The Christmas favorite Jolly Old St. Nicholas is paired with Jingle Bells.

Advanced Strings (8:45pm)
Featuring concert works by Sean O’Loughlin and David Shaffer. Seventh grader Chaemin Lee is featured on piano in Silvestri’s Believe from the movie The Polar Express. Holiday favorites include Dance of the Tumblers from Rimsky-Korsakov’s ballet The Snow Maiden. Rounding out the program is Respighi’s Ancient Aires and Dances. 

Concert Orchestra (9:15pm)
Concert Orchestra combines the members of Advanced Strings with the very best players of Kaimuki Symphonic Winds to form a full symphony orchestra. The group will perform Bruno Mars’ breakout single Just The Way You Are, the well-known Rossini Overture to The Barber of Seville, and the Music Department’s theme song Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana.

There will be programs at the front door and donations are kindly accepted! We hope to see you there!
